2014/06/15 Mindfulness

To start my new blog, I share some insights into Mindfulness.

Experiencing the joy of the here and now helps us to feel more positive more of the time.

Mindfulness requires us to be in the here and now, not miles away. Take time to notice your surroundings, to see what is around you.
Connect with people around you – family members, your friends, colleagues at work, your neighbours. At home, at work, school or in the community. Invest time in this as one of the bases of your life. Build on these connections to support and enrich you every day.

Try something new or rediscover an old interest. Sign up for a course or take on a new task at work. Try out a new recipe or learn a new language. Set yourself a challenge that you will enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident and help you to have fun.

Go for a walk or a run. Go outside. Cycle, garden or dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Find a physical activity you enjoy that suits your level of fitness or mobility.

Be curious. See the beautiful and notice the unusual. Take note of the changing seasons. Savour the moment, whether you are walking, eating lunch or talking to friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your experiences will help you to appreciate what matters to you.

Do something nice for a friend, or for a stranger. Give company to someone isolated and lonely. Thank someone. Smile. Volunteer your time. Join a community group. Look out, as well as in. Seeing yourself, your happiness, linked to the wider community can be very rewarding, and can create connections with the people around you.

Enjoy your week and take notice of it.  Reflect on what makes you feel more positive.
